Since 2017, pedestrian traffic lights have been installed at 13 spots on different streets in Hanoi. However, many people said that the lights haven't helped much.

Ha Nhung, a resident of Hoan Kiem District said that she sometimes paid attention to the lights before crossing at an intersection on Dinh Tien Hoang Street but few vehicles stopped for her to go.

"Many drivers just ignore these lights," she said. "Therefore, using the lights or not, we still have to watch carefully when crossing the road."

Nhung said that some pedestrians don't know about the existence of the lights.

Two students at the Nguyen Tat Thanh High School, Nhat Minh and Ha Chung, said they were very afraid of crossing the crowded Xuan Thuy Street every day when going to school.

"There are pedestrian lights at the junction but they aren't working," Chung said. "We see that the lights have been broken for a long time but haven't been fixed or replaced."
