After careful consideration, authorities in Hanoi have decided to study the building of eight overpasses in places with high congestion.

The municipal Department of Transport and Public Works said that construction of overpasses may be the best choice for the capital city to settle the current traffic problems.

It explained that traffic jams are often recorded in the city at rush hour, even when people obey traffic rules, because roads are too small.

In the meantime, road expansion could come at great costs because of site clearance in densely populated areas.

The department planned to use light structures to build such bridges to save money and time. They expect it would take between six and eight months to build each overpass.

These bridges could be constructed on well known bottle-necks, including Nam Hong, Road No. 69, Hoang Quoc Viet, Lang-Nguyen Chi Thanh, Lang-Le Van Luong, and Lang Ha-Thai Ha.

Others will be on connections of Chua Boc-Tay Son and Chua Boc-Pham Ngoc Thach, it added.
