Northern region braces for heavy rain

The northern region of Vietnam is forecast to experience a prolonged rainy spell starting this weekend.

According to the National Hydro Meteorological Forecasting Centre, widespread rain is expected from the night of June 28 to July 2, with midland and mountainous areas likely to see moderate to heavy rainfall. Some locations may receive totals of 150-300 mm, and locally over 500 mm.

Between June 26 and 28, northern localities are expected to record rainfall ranging from 10 to 30 mm, with some areas receiving over 80 mm within 24 hours. Heavier rain is forecast in mountainous regions.

Over the next few days, daytime highs in the northern region will range from 30-33 degrees Celsius, while nighttime lows will be between 23 and 26 degrees Celsius.

From Thanh Hoa to Thua Thien Hue provinces, central localities will see little to no rain, strong sunshine and occasional heat from June 26 to 28, with maximum temperatures of 33-36 degrees Celsius.

Meanwhile, areas from Danang City to Binh Thuan Province will continue to experience mostly dry and sunny conditions, with isolated hot spells in some locations.

The Central Highlands and southern regions will have sunny days with scattered afternoon showers. From June 26 to 27, moderate to heavy rain is forecast, with daily totals of 20-40 mm and some places exceeding 70 mm. The weather is expected to remain mostly dry, with only isolated showers from June 28 to 30. Rainfall is likely to increase again on July 1 and 2, with similar amounts.
