No Vietnamese victims in Brussels bombings

No Vietnamese were injured or killed in a series of bombings that took place in Brussels on March 22, according to Vietnamese Ambassador to Belgium Vuong Thua Phong.

He told reporters from the Vietnam News Agency that the embassy made immediate contact with the host’s authorities, Vietnamese associations and students to receive updates on the situation.

He confirmed that as of the evening of March 22 (local time), the embassy had not received any reports of Vietnamese victims.

In addition to continuously making contact with local authorities for updates, the embassy warned Vietnamese citizens to increase their vigilance and strictly follow warnings from Belgian authorities, he said.

Any problems should be promptly reported to the embassy for necessary citizen protection measures, he added.

The embassy also launched two hotlines, 0032.485.315.965 and 0032.498.352.442, to support Vietnamese citizens.

A series of explosions ripped through Brussels airport and a city metro station on March 22, killing at least 35 people and injuring more than 200.

Vietnamese Government and State leaders extended their condolences to Belgium over the loss of dozens of lives and injuries caused by the terror attacks.

In his response to the media on Vietnam’s reaction to these incidents, Spokesperson for the Foreign Ministry Le Hai Binh said Vietnam vehemently condemns these attacks.
