A car park operator at Cua Lo beach in Nghe An Province has been fined for charging tourists more than the publicly listed parking fee.

The People's Committee of Cua Lo Ward fined Phan Van Dung, 41, VND 7.5 million (USD 286) on Tuesday for overcharging motorists and ordered him to refund the excess amount collected from customers.

Dung, who operates Car Park No. 19 in the Cua Lo beach tourism area, charged motorists VND 30,000 per vehicle despite the posted fee being VND 20,000, authorities said.

He admitted the violation during questioning.

Authorities said they would step up inspections of tourism-related businesses, including car parks, restaurants and accommodation providers, to prevent overcharging and other pricing violations.

Businesses that fail to display prices, charge above listed rates or damage the area's tourism image will face strict penalties, the ward said.

Located about 10 km from Vinh City and more than 300 km south of Hanoi, Cua Lo is one of central Vietnam's best-known beach destinations, attracting millions of visitors each summer.
