Vietnam records 7,913 more Covid-19 infections on Tuesday including 6,318 in the virus hotspot of Ho Chi Minh City, raising the total number of patients in the country to 114,260, the Ministry of Health has reported.
According to the ministry's report, 7,911 of the newly-confirmed patients are locally-transmitted cases most of whom were detected in quarantine sites or areas under lockdown in some localities including 6,318 in Ho Chi Minh City, 303 in Dong Thap, 239 in Dong Nai, 166 in Binh Duong, 144 in Tay Ninh, 75 in Long An, 73 in Vinh Long, 71 in Can Tho, 63 in Tien Giang, 60 in Ben Tre, 60 in Phu Yen, 52 in Ba Ria-Vung Tau, 45 in Binh Thuan, 43 in An Giang, 26 in Khanh Hoa, 26 in Danang, 23 in Hanoi, 22 in Soc Trang, 13 in Kien Giang, 13 in Ninh Thuan, 12 in Dak Lak, 11 in Vinh Phuc, 10 in Hau Giang, eight in Binh Dinh, six in Hue, five in Gia Lai, five in Dak Nong, three in Tra Vinh, three in Quang Nam, three in Quang Ngai, two in Kon Tum, two in Lang Son, and one each in Ca Mau, Thai Nguyen, Bac Lieu, Thanh Hoa, Lam Dong, and Ha Tinh. Among these new infections, 1,063 cases were found in the communities.
Ho Chi Minh City continued to report the highest number of new infections in the country. On Monday, the city also recorded 5,997 new patients, the majority of which are individuals who came into contact with confirmed Covid-19 patients or who were detected in either isolation and locked down areas. Social distancing rules are being further tightened in the city to contain the virus spread.
There were two imported patients confirmed who are all Vietnamese people who recently returned from abroad.
As of Tuesday evening, 110,487 locally-transmitted cases have been reported since the new outbreak occurred in the country on April 27, including 72,740 in the virus hotspot of Ho Chi Minh City. The outbreak has so far spread to 62 cities and provinces nationwide.
With these new infection cases, the number of Covid-19 patients in Vietnam has increased to 114,260 including 112,057 locally-transmitted cases.
As of 6 pm on July 27, a total of 22,946 Covid-19 patients had recovered and been discharged from hospital.
On Monday, a further 154 deaths were announced related to Covid-19, bringing the total number of fatalities in the country to 524. Of the new fatalities, 129 deaths were in HCM City, nine in Dong Thap, seven in Long An, two in Can Tho, two in Khanh Hoa and Ninh Thuan, Bac Ninh, Tra Vinh, Kien Giang, Dong Nai reported one death each.
The country has conducted over 4.70 million Covid-19 vaccine shots, with 423,071 people having received two doses.
