Nearly 4,000 criminal trade cases in January

Hanoi authorities reported that as of January 26, they had dealt with 3,634 smuggling and fraudulent trading cases.

Hanoi authorities reported that as of January 26, they had dealt with 3,634 smuggling and fraudulent trading cases.

The authorities have dealt with 3,634 out of 7,490 cases, in which 24 cases with 28 offenders have been prosecuted. There are 2,910 fraudulent trading cases, 454 cases of smuggling and selling banned goods and 270 fake goods and intellectual property infringement cases.

The total administrative fines and tax arrears, and confiscated money reached nearly VND624bn (USD27.6m).

The authorities are tightening collaboration to fight against smuggling and low-quality goods. Improved awareness about the law and firms agreeing to sign up to commitments to not commit trade fraud or be involved in smuggling activities are highlighted.

Local authorities are also attempting to raise people's awareness about low-quality and fake products.

In 2017, Hanoi Steering Committee 389 also asked localities to strictly follow regulations to fight smuggling especially for Tet Holiday as demand for necessities spike.
