Nearly 15,000 more Covid-19 infections confirmed on Monday

An additional 14,872 Covid-19 infections were confirmed in Vietnam on Monday and Hanoi continued to record the highest number of cases, according to the Ministry of Health.

According to the ministry's report, 14,867 of the new patients are locally-transmitted cases confirmed in 59 out of 63 localities in the country with five localities seeing the highest numbers including Hanoi (1,948), Tay Ninh (943), Hai Phong (931), Vinh Long (892), and Khanh Hoa (791). There were five imported patients confirmed today.

The new infections showed a decrease of 315 cases compared to yesterday's figure. There were 10,418 infections found in the community.

As of Monday evening, 1,660,900 infections had been reported since the new outbreak occurred in the country in late April. Some localities that have recorded the highest number of patients include HCM City (500,617), Binh Duong (290,240), Dong Nai (97,043), Tay Ninh (71,537), and Dong Thap (41,816).

With these new infection cases, the number of Covid-19 patients in Vietnam has increased to 1,666,545. The country now stands 31st among 223 countries and territories worldwide in the number of infections.

On December 27, an additional 11,374 more patients recovered from the disease, raising the number of recoveries in the country to 1,259,614.


On Monday evening, a further 204 deaths related to Covid-19 were announced, bringing the total number of fatalities in Vietnam to 31,418. The deaths were reported in some localities including HCM City (30), An Giang (22), Dong Nai (17), Binh Duong (15), Tay Ninh (14), Soc Trang (13), Tien Giang (13), Vinh Long (12), Kien Giang (12), Ba Ria - Vung Tau (11), Can Tho (11), Ben Tre (8 ), Ca Mau (7), Bac Lieu (6), Khanh Hoa (3), Binh Thuan (3), Tra Vinh (3), Quang Nam (1), Binh Dinh (1), Nghe An (1), and Dak Lak (1).

Vietnam on December 26 administered 725,301 doses of Covid-19 vaccines. The country has so far conducted over 146.33 million Covid-19 vaccine shots, with over 66.40 million people having received two doses.
