According to the Trang Bom District Health Department, the workers ate chicken noodles and soon developed symptoms, including abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, and fatigue afterwards.

"Nearly 100 workers were sent to hospital by Wednesday evening with similar symptoms after some 500 workers ate the food," the department said.

Director of the Trang Bom Healthcare Centre Nguyen Duc Phuoc said that while one of the workers faced serious conditions and had to use a ventilator, most had light symptoms and were given medicines for home treatment.

Dong Nai authorities are investigating the case.

Electrical component manufacturer Dechang Vietnam, located in Giang Dien Industrial Park in Trang Bom District, employs some 1,200 workers.

Several large-scale food poisoning cases have recently been reported in Vietnam.

More than 350 workers in Vinh Phuc Province were hospitalised with suspected food poisoning after having lunch at their company's canteen on May 14. The cause of the incident has yet to be defined.

Earlier on May 1, over 500 people in Dong Nai also faced food poisoning after having banh mi sandwiches at a local bakery. Testing later showed that the sandwiches had Salmonella bacteria. Two children in critical condition are still being treated at hospital.
