A mother from Quang Tri Province is in need of help to save her two ill sons after losing her firstborn to the same illness.
Doan Thi Thanh Nga sells mangos for a living and her husband Phan Van Thang works as delivery man. When their firstborn was only few months old, he was diagnosed with idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura, a disorder that can lead to easy or excessive bruising and bleeding.
He struggled with the illness for six years. Doctors have to feed him intravenously.
Nga said they couldn't let him go to school. "He kept asking me for food," Nga said. "Blood transfusion, platelet transfusion and glucose transfusion... it hurt me looking at him like that. In his last days, he said 'god, help me' and then he died."
In 2004, Nga had a second child, Phan Van Do, but he was also diagnosed with the same problem a year old. Nga stayed home to take care of the kids and the family struggled to pay for hospital fees and daily needs.
When Do was released from hospital to visit his hometown, his nose started bleeding and he had severe headache that the family had to admit him to hospital immediately. In early this year, doctors found out that virus attacked the platelet in Do's left ear. Do then went through five operations.

Phan Van Do diagnosed with the same problem a year old
Nga said, "Despite illness, he still managed to finish primary school. But his condition worsened so he can't continue his studies anymore. I'm afraid he doesn't have much time left."
Dr. Chau Van Ha from the Paediatric Centre at Hue Central Hospital said Do had idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura and was infected with multidrug-resistant bacteria. His chance to live is low. Because Do is over 6 years old, his health insurance doesn't cover many expensive medicines.
Nga's youngest children have to take care of each other when parents are not home
Nga and her husband has two more children but unfortunately, their youngest son, born in 2013, also has the same problem while Do's condition getting worse.
The whole family depends on Nga's husband whose daily wage is ranging from VND100,000 (USD4.54) to VND200,000. Their relatives are poor and can't help much. Nga used her land certificate book as collateral for a VND70m bank loan but they spent all of it. They managed to borrow VND20m more but it is also disappearing fast. Nga is now trying to sell the house at VND150m.
