
Deputy Minister of Defence Sen. Lieut. Gen. Nguyen Chi Vinh hands over the State President’s decisions to the seven officers to take on duty at the United Nations peacekeeping mission in the South Sudan and Central African Republic at a ceremony on June 28.
Deputy Minister of Defence Sen. Lieut. Gen. Nguyen Chi Vinh tasked the seven officers to join the United Nations peacekeeping mission in South Sudan and the Central African Republic at a ceremony on June 28.
On behalf of the seven officers, Lieut. Colonel Luong Truong Vinh said it was an honour for Vietnamese officers to take on the peacekeeping mission.Also in the team, Lieut. Colonel Nguyen Thi Lien, from the Vietnam Department of Peacekeeping Operations, has become the second female officer to have been assigned the task after Major Do Thi Hang Nga, who has returned home after finishing her one-year working term as a commanding officer in South Sudan.
Speaking at the hand-over ceremony, Lieut. Col. Lien expressed her honour to be directly involved in UN peacekeeping activities.
"I've always dreamed of joining the peacekeeping forces, especially after hearing a speech by Director of the Vietnam Department of Peacekeeping Operations Colonel Hoang Kim Phung who shared about the special mission," Lien said.
Lien pledged to do well in his duty for the term, contributing to implementing Vietnam’s plan on joining in UN peacekeeping operations.
The officers leave Vietnam for South Sudan and Central African Republic in late June and early July.
