Lam Dong airport to get international upgrade

The Ministry of Transport plans to upgrade Lien Khuong Airport in the Central Highlands province of Lam Dong to accept international flights.

The Ministry of Transport plans to upgrade Lien Khuong Airport in the Central Highlands province of Lam Dong to accept international flights.

Under the plan, Lien Khuong will become a top-tier airport by 2030.

It would serve five million passengers and 20,000 tonnes of cargo annually. The airport could accommodate large aircraft like the Airbus 320/A321, Boeing 747/B787/A350s.

By 2050, the capacity would be raised to seven million passengers and 30,000 tonnes of cargo. At the same time, the runway would be expanded westward by 350 metres to 3,600 metres long and 45 metres wide.

Lam Dong Province has been asked to arrange land for the airport planning.

The total land required for the airport by 2030 would be 340.84 hectares, including 176.21 hectares for civil aviation activities and the remaining for military use.

The parking area will be expanded to accommodate 27 planes.

Lien Khuong Airport is in Duc Trong District, 28 kilometres from Da Lat City’s centre. It currently serves two million passengers per year.
