Vietnam received financial support worth nearly $2.6 million USD from Japan during the fiscal year of 2009, according to the Japanese Embassy in Vietnam.

29 projects funded in 2009 brought the total number of projects funded by Japan since 1992 to 382 projects worth some $27.5 million dollars.
The North and Central areas received $1.7 million for 20 projects and the remaining went to the South.
The funded programme was divided into 5 fields including researching education (14 projects), health care (6 projects), transportation (4 projects), agricultural-fishing (3 projects) and living environment (2 projects).
The Japanese Embassy has approved 20 projects in the fiscal year of 2009, most of them are involving eduation.
Notably, there were 10 projects to build elementary and high schools, 3 were vocational training that will help Vietnam develop human resources.
In addition, the programme financed two projects on irrigational system improvement, one on rural road upgrades and one on constructing suspended bridges in mountainous and Central Highlands areas.
Furthermore, there were also projects on environmental protection and pollution control in handicraft villages in Bac Ninh.
