The 15km road is one of the five components of a project to improve the commercial environment of the province. The Japanese Government contributed JPY11.7 billion (USD151.5 million) in official development assistance (ODA) for the project.
Other components of the project include upgrades on clean water supply systems and wastewater treatment facilities in Vinh Yen City; a power supply in Vinh Yen and Phuc Yen and the promotion of further investment in the province.
The project is scheduled for completion in 2014.
Chairman of the Vinh Phuc People’s Committee Phung Quang Hung highly appreciated the Japanese-funded project, saying that this infrastructure is needed to meet the growing demands of foreign investors, and providing it has become one of the province’s top priorities.
Currently the province has to deal with problems such as power cuts and a shortage of clean water and outdated wastewater and drainage systems.
Vinh Phuc Province, 60 km north from Hanoi, is home to many large international investors such Honda, Toyota, Piaggio, Taiwan’s Foxconn, and CPK Group, among many others.
