The Institute of Earth Sciences under the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology said the quake occurred at 12.41 am Hanoi time at a depth of about 8.1 km.
Its epicentre was recorded at 14.904 degrees north latitude and 108.153 degrees east longitude.
A magnitude 3.4 earthquake had struck the same area at 5.38 pm on August 28 at a depth of about 10 km, also posing no disaster risk.
Hundreds of earthquakes have been recorded in Quang Ngai since 2021, mainly in the former Kon Plong District of what was previously Kon Tum Province.
The strongest was a magnitude 5.0 quake on July 28, 2024, while a magnitude 4.7 earthquake was recorded on August 23, 2022.
Experts have attributed the seismic activity to induced earthquakes and expect further tremors in the area, though they are unlikely to exceed magnitude 5.0.
Further studies are needed to better assess seismic activity in the region.
