Only 30% of inter-provincial passenger buses have been allowed to resume services in medium-risk areas. The rate in low-risk areas is 50%.

Transport units has also been asked to provide hand sanitiser, disinfectant and rubbish bins fitted with lids on all transport.

Passengers are required to sit at least one metre apart, while both passengers and train staff have to wear face masks during trips. They also have to fill in e-health declarations and have their body temperatures checked before boarding.

According to the municipal Department of Transport, on April 24-27, the city’s stations saw 69,610 passengers in total with 9,383 trips. This means that each trip served only seven passengers on average, down 67%-88% at local stations.

Meanwhile, rail, waterway and aviation transport in HCM City has also witnessed a sharp fall in passengers.

The HCM City Department of Transport has proposed the municipal people’s committee measures to help reduce difficulties for transportation firms such as offering lower interest rates, taxes and road maintenance fees.
