Ministry of Public Security Vice Minister Le Quoc Hung hosted on July 30 and 31 Department of State’s Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary Shelby Smith-Wilson along with interagency delegations from the United States and Vietnam for the inaugural US-Vietnam Law Enforcement and Security Dialogue.
The two sides discussed a range of regional security and transnational organized crime issues, including combating narcotics, wildlife, and human trafficking as well as cybercrime, money laundering, and countering violent extremism. The delegations discussed priorities related to capacity building within the law enforcement and criminal justice sector and how to deepen law enforcement to law enforcement cooperation to address shared transnational criminal challenges.
As decided in the Joint Statement between our leaders after elevating the bilateral relationship to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, the dialogue enhances law enforcement and security cooperation as both countries work to advance our shared goals a free, open, prosperous, secure, and resilient Indo-Pacific region.
