People are visiting the northern provinces of Cao Bang and Lao Cai in droves to see the snow and ice which is covering the area following a short cold spell.
Winter this year has been much warmer and cold spells are shorter than previous years. But whenever the cold in Lao Cai Province brings snow and ice, visitors from around the country are keen to pay a visit.
Khuong Quang Hanh, head of the Tram Ton Forest Ranger Unit, said leaves and grass had started to freeze since the early morning of December 17, and by noon, all the shrubs and forest were covered in a thin white blanket.
According to Lao Cai Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, Thursday is the third consecutive day that the temperature in Lao Cai drops to below 2 Celsius in the early morning. The icy weather will continue for several days as temperatures remain low.
Luu Minh Hai, the centre's director, said farmers should be more careful and pay attention to their livestock.
