Specifically, from the afternoon and evening of October 13, the northeastern region and the areas from Thanh Hoa to Ha Tinh are projected to experience rain and scattered thunderstorms, with rainfall ranging from 15-30mm, and locally exceeding 70mm in some places.
Starting October 14, rainfall is expected to spread to the northwestern region.
The 24-hour accumulated rainfall is projected to remain below 50mm, keeping the risk of flooding on river systems in northern Vietnam at a low level.
However, localised showers and thunderstorms with intense rainfall of 30-50mm per hour may still develop, potentially triggering flash floods, landslides, and inundation in mountainous areas, the meteorological agency warned.
After this spell, another round of scattered showers and thunderstorms is likely to affect northern Vietnam between October 19 and 20, with some areas expected to face heavy rain.
The National Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting reported that on the night of October 12 and during October 13, scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected across areas from Quang Tri to Lam Dong and the southern region, with rainfall ranging from 10-30mm and locally surpassing 80mm in some places.
