A delegation from Ho Chi Minh City led by Nguyen Thi Thu Ha, Vice Secretary of the City Party Committee visited the branch office of the Vietnam Buddhist Shangha (SBV) and the HCM City Buddhist Church on the occasion of the 2555th birthday of Lord Buddha.
On behalf of municipal leaders, Ms Ha extended their best wishes to Buddhist dignitaries, monks, nuns and followers and highly appreciated their participation in social activities, especially in cultural, healthcare and charitable programmes, which have significantly contributed to national development.
Ms Ha called on them to make greater contributions to the city to ensure the success of the coming 13th National Assembly election and the 8th People’s Council election as well as for the 2011-2016 term.
Most Venerable Thich Tu Nhon, Vice Chairman of the SBV’s Executive Board said the Vietnamese Buddhists always stand shoulder to shoulder with the whole nation to boost socio-economic development.
He thanked the municipal leaders for assisting the Buddhist Church to function well.
The same day, representatives from the Fatherland Front chapters in the city visited many pagodas to congratulate monks and nuns on Lord Buddha’s birthday.
