On August 5, the Chairman of Haiphong City People's Committee Nguyen Van Tung sent an urgent document to the HCM City and asked for 500,000 doses of Sinopharm for Covid-19 prevention. Hai Phong has a population of two million people, of which 1.6 million people are eligible for vaccination. The city has been allocated 165,000 doses of vaccines and needs more.
Vice-chairman of HCM City People's Committee Duong Anh Duc has submitted an official document to the Ministry of Health, seeking permission to share the doses with other provinces.
According to Duc, a corporation helped them negotiate for the vaccines and provided financial support for everything. The HCM City Department of Health is responsible for planning, storing and allocating the doses to the vaccination spots after receiving the vaccines from the sellers.
HCM City administered nearly 2.3 million doses to the residents between July 22 to August 8.
