HCM City authorities are seeking prime ministerial approval for the construction of the second hi-tech park project.

HCM City authorities are seeking prime ministerial approval for the construction of the second hi-tech park project.

The project is expected to cover around 195 hectares in District 9’s Long Phuoc Ward. It is aimed to be a place to connect universities, institutes and hi-tech enterprises to serve for the city’s hi-tech sectors.

Saigon Hi-tech Park (SHTP), the first of its kind in the city, is among the three hi-tech parks set up in the country so far.

By the end of April this year, SHTP licensed 156 projects worth USD7.1 billion. Among those, 73 have become operational, bringing in accumulated total export value of USD45.4 billion to date.

The projects cover IT, telecommunications, precise engineering, automation, bio-technology, new materials and energy and Nano technology.

Big investors in the park include Intel, Nidec, Samsung and Nipro.
