CPI in Hanoi has increased by 9.56% compared to December 2009.

During the month, except for postal & telecommunications services, the other 10 groups of commodities all saw a rise in prices from the previous month.

The Vietnam News Agency said one economic expert’s assessment regarding CPI in Hanoi for 2010 was that the CPI surge is due to the sharp increase in input materials, epidemics with cattle and negative impacts of the recent floods in the central and northern regions which hindered transportation.

Furthermore, the increased number of buyers at the year’s end is also pushing up price. The rising value of the USD over VND is also resulting in higher prices of imported goods.

In December, gold price increased 5.4% compared to November and was up by 37.02% over 2009. Meanwhile, USD price also rose 3.44% compared to November and was up by 7.44% over previous year.
