Police in Hanoi will verify a case in which a female vendor charged two foreign tourists up to VND500,000 (USD20) for three pineapples.

This morning, April 29, authorities of Hang Dao Ward in Hoan Kiem District heard about the incident which has also gone viral on social networks.

The vendor was seen ling three apples to two female foreigners at VND500,000 


According to the initial information, at around 9:40 pm on April 27, Le Mai Lam while on patrol duty in the Dong Xuan night market area, saw the vendor selling three apples to two female foreigners at VND500,000. The guests reacted and demanded the vendor to return the money, but she refused to do so.

Lam advised the seller to return the money to the customers. She then took out VND500,000 and gave it back to them. The foreigners left, and the vendor quickly moved.

Hang Dao authorities have asked the local police to follow up on the case
