The event was held by the Ho Chi Minh City Youth Workers Support Centre at Long Bien Palace Wedding Convention Centre on the occasion of the National Day September 2.

The couples were offered many wedding items, shopping vouchers, and health care vouchers. The organiser also offered house rent for one year for some couples who have financial difficulties.

The ceremony started with offering flowers to Late President Ho Chi Minh on Nguyen Hue Walking Street. After that, they got on double-decker buses for a parade on some major streets in the city.

Phan Van Kha from Can Tho City took his fiancee who had to use a wheelchair to the wedding. He said that they felt very moved to be given this valuable gift. "We've been living together for five years but haven't been able to hold a wedding due to financial difficulties," he said. "This is really a dream come true for us."

Couple Hoang Van Nang and Vu Thi Tinh from District 7’s Tan Thuan Dong Commune took their three children to the event. They said that they were very happy to attend the mass wedding. Nang is a construction builder and Tinh is a vendor. Due to financial difficulties, they have not yet held their wedding, but had just finished the marriage registration.
"Our landlord told us about the mass wedding and we’re very happy to join it. We’ve not yet had our wedding photos,” Nang added.

Over the past 13 years, the Ho Chi Minh City Youth Workers Support Centre has hosted group weddings for 922 couples who are poor workers.
