According to the provincial criminal police division, the incident occurred at around 2 am on June 12 when a 31-year-old male taxi driver was travelling along the North–South Expressway, near the Dong Xuan interchange in Thanh Hoa City.
As he approached an entrance ramp to the expressway, the driver noticed four unfamiliar individuals standing across the road waving him down. Thinking they were potential passengers, he pulled over.
However, as soon as he rolled down his window, the men sprayed pepper spray into his face and seized control of the vehicle.
The suspects fled the scene in the stolen car.
After receiving the report, Thanh Hoa police launched a manhunt and successfully apprehended the suspects by around 7 am the same morning.
The case is currently under further investigation.
