Several fishing boats moored at a dock in Tan An Village, Quynh Phu Commune, unexpectedly caught fire early on June 30, causing significant damage to fishermen's property.
Ho Van Thanh, chairman of the Quynh Phu Commune People's Committee, told Dantri that the fire broke out before dawn at a mooring area upstream from Lach Quen Port.
According to Thanh, the blaze started on one fishing boat before rapidly spreading to neighbouring vessels.
"At least three fishing boats have been damaged by the fire so far. Firefighters have brought the blaze on one vessel under control and are continuing efforts to extinguish the flames on the remaining boats," Thanh said.
After receiving the emergency call, the Nghe An Fire Prevention, Firefighting and Rescue Police, together with local authorities and other relevant agencies, deployed fire engines and rushed to the scene.
By around 7.30 am, firefighters were still working to contain the blaze, preventing it from spreading further and minimising property losses.
Authorities are investigating the cause of the fire.
The incident came a day after another major fire swept through a fishing boat anchorage at Khe Da in Quy Nhon Dong Ward, Gia Lai Province, destroying 12 fishing boats.
No injuries were reported. According to local fishermen, most of the vessels were ageing squid fishing boats valued at between VND 150 million and VND 300 million (approximately USD 5,700 and USD 11,400), although replacing each vessel would cost nearly VND 1 billion (approximately USD 38,000).
