According to the National Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, Rainfall of 10-30 mm is forecast across much of the region through August 1, with isolated downpours exceeding 60 mm.
Coastal areas including Quang Ninh, Hai Phong, Hung Yen, Ninh Binh, Thanh Hoa and Nghe An could receive more than 100 mm of rain in some locations.
Forecasters warned that intense rainfall exceeding 100 mm within three hours could trigger flash floods, landslides and severe flooding in low-lying areas. The unsettled weather is expected to persist for several more days.
Separate warnings were issued for Quang Ninh and Tuyen Quang, where continued rainfall has increased the risk of flash floods and landslides after some areas recorded more than 180 mm of rain on Friday.
Thunderstorms may also bring lightning, hail, strong winds and possible waterspouts over the Gulf of Tonkin, the northern East Sea and waters off southern Vietnam, posing hazards to vessels operating in affected areas.
