The proposal, submitted by Khanh Hoa's Department of Construction, calls for several pedestrian bridges along Tran Phu Street, Nha Trang's main coastal road, to improve pedestrian safety and ease traffic congestion.
The department said the road frequently becomes congested during weekends, holidays and peak tourism seasons as growing numbers of vehicles and pedestrians share the busy waterfront route.
The proposal follows the approval of a 1:500 detailed zoning plan for the eastern side of Tran Phu Street, which encourages pedestrian bridges to improve traffic connectivity and the city's urban landscape.
If approved, Nha Trang authorities will study investment plans for the bridges to enhance pedestrian safety, reduce traffic conflicts and improve access along Tran Phu Street.
Khanh Hoa welcomed nearly 12 million visitors, including 4.6 million international arrivals, in the first half of the year, generating more than VND 42 trillion (USD 1.6 billion) in tourism revenue.
The province expects to receive more than 21.7 million visitors this year, up more than 32 per cent from a year earlier.
