High-speed ferry to Con Dao suspended after technical fault

A high-speed ferry on the Vung Tau-Con Dao route has been suspended after a technical fault forced the vessel to abandon its voyage and return to port.

The Thang Long high-speed ferry operating between Vung Tau and Con Dao has been suspended from August 1 following a technical fault during a scheduled passenger service.

Phu Quoc Express said the ferry departed Vung Tau at 7.30 am on August 1 as planned. However, a technical problem prevented the vessel from continuing its journey safely, forcing the captain to turn back.

The ferry returned safely to Vung Tau at around 10.15 am, where all passengers disembarked without incident.

A spokesperson for Phu Quoc Express apologised to passengers for the disruption, describing the incident as an unforeseen technical failure. The company said it had refunded all ticket payments to travel agents, who would in turn reimburse affected passengers.

The disruption affected more than 200 passengers booked to travel from Vung Tau to Con Dao on August 1, as well as more than 200 passengers scheduled to travel in the opposite direction on August 2.

The company said the cause of the disruption had been explained to passengers onboard and that many had expressed understanding given the unexpected nature of the incident.

Passenger services on the Vung Tau-Con Dao route have been suspended until further notice while the vessel undergoes inspection and repairs.

Services on the Tran De-Con Dao route will continue to operate as normal.
