A fire in the southern province of An Giang has burnt down 78 houses and damaged seven others, leaving dozens of people injured.
The blaze, which broke out on June 12 morning, has caused an estimated total losses of around VND30 billion (USD1.42 million).
After two hours of efforts from late morning onwards, hundreds of people had managed to get the fire under control.
According to initial investigations, the fire flared at at one of the houses that acted as a construction material store, then quickly spread to surrounding houses. The fire violently grew at the noon. Local authorities have provided support of VND1 million to each affected family and arranged temporary accommodation for the victims.
Vo Van Liem from Vinh Xuong Commune People’s Committee, said, “families that had their houses burnt down are in a very difficult situation because they are mostly employed as daily labourers.
