The owners of hayhaytv.vn fined VND60 million

On September 28, the Ministry of Information and Communications and the Ministry of Public Security's Anti-Hi-tech Crimes Police Department raided the Bach Trieu Phat Company in HCM City and blocked the main servers.

On October 7, inspector Dang Anh Tuan signed a decision to fine Bach Trieu Phat for illegally distributing movies in large numbers. Bach Trieu Phat were ordered to remove all of illegal content within 10 days of the decision being issued.

Hayhaytv.vn began operations in 2012. It functioned as a social network website but also provided online movies and TV programmes.

The local authorities are still trying to clamp down on wide spread copyright infringement in Vietnam. Several websites including pubvn.tv or phimmoi.net also stream movies illegally and bypass laws by moving their servers abroad. Some websites charge viewers fees despite not having the rights to legally show the programmes and films.
