On May 31, Giang Seo Lu, 57, in Man Than Commune, Si Ma Cai District came to a local stone cave to take water for daily use along with his cousin.

Suddenly, it rained heavily, sweeping a great amount of soil and stone to fill into the cave gate, causing Lu to be trapped inside. Meanwhile, his cousin who stood outside escaped and quickly reported the incident to local authorities.
Vien Dinh Hiep, a representative from Si Ma Cai District’s Agricultural and Rural Development Board, said that roughly 120 people have been arranged to save the man.
The cave is 40 metres deep and quite rough, so the rescue forces have not yet been able to access to Lu. To date, it is not sure that Lu is still alive or dead.
On Wednesday, the district held an urgent meeting on the case. Solutions such as pumping water out of the cave will be implemented.
