A representative from TKV-Vinacomin told Dantri/Dtinews on May 17 that Dung would be removed and reassigned to another department at TKV. Before taking his new job, Dung was asked to deal with the latest accident, which left three workers dead and one injured on May 13.
The representative said, "Deputy head of the TKV Safety Board Nguyen Thanh Tung is preparing to take over Dung's position and will become the new director of Quang Hanh."
Several deadly labour accidents have occurred at the Quang Ninh-based Quang Hanh Coal Company since 2023.
Last year, two workers died in two accidents, and a severe incident also occurred in the company that year. KTV sent a letter on December 29, 2023, asking Director Nguyen Tat Dung to review his management.
A severe labour accident occurred at Quang Hanh again earlier this week when a landslide at a company's mine killed three workers and injured another.
Reports from the Quang Ninh Provincial Department of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs said the accident happened at 3.30 pm on May 13 when a landslide suddenly occurred. It killed three male workers aged between 29 and 44. A 33-year-old worker was seriously injured and is still being treated at a local hospital.
"The company violated regulations on labour safety," TKV said.
Deadly mining accidents are not uncommon in Vietnam.
Last month, a methane gas fire last month at the Thong Nhat Coal Company, also under TKV's management, killed four workers and injured seven others.
Last year, accidents at the group's coal mines in Quang Ninh claimed the lives of at least ten workers.
