Danish Ambassador to Vietnam John Nielsen told a July 12 press briefing in Hanoi that the funding will focus on poor communities across the country’s three regions, especially in Ben Tre, Dak Lak, Dak Nong, Quang Nam, Lai Chau, and Dien Bien provinces.
The European Union’s delegation to Vietnam identifies Denmark as one of its member nations’ leading donors to the Southeast Asian country. In 2012, Denmark provided Vietnam with 42.85 million euro in ODA and an additional 1.96 million euro worth of preferential loans.
The ambassador said cooperation between Denmark and Vietnam targets green energy growth, responses to climate change, trade development, clean water and environmental sanitation, culture, and State management.
He said Demark hopes its assistance will help Vietnam’s green economic reforms and contribute to ameliorating the negative impact of climate change.
Denmark is also committed to supporting Vietnam’s cultural development. The Danish Embassy has announced a sponsorship programme for an art exhibition showcasing Vietnamese painters in Hanoi.
The results of its foreign trade and investment promotion initiatives can be seen in the 140 Danish businesses currently operating in Vietnam.
