At 6 am on August 30, residents in 34 provinces and cities will take part in the nationwide walking campaign.

The event is organised by Nhan Dan Newspaper in coordination with the Ministry of Public Security and aims to establish a new Guinness World Record for the largest simultaneous environmental walking activity.

Organisers said the campaign is expected to promote physical fitness, strengthen connections between central and local authorities and showcase Vietnam's ability to mobilise communities on a national scale.

Speaking at a press conference on August 25, Le Quoc Minh, editor-in-chief of Nhan Dan Newspaper, said Guinness representatives would travel to Vietnam to verify the record attempt.

In addition to pursuing a world record, the event seeks to promote green lifestyles and raise awareness of emissions reduction efforts in support of Vietnam's Net Zero goals.

An online registration portal has been opened at the event's official website, allowing participants from across the country to sign up.

Organisers said more than 104,000 people had registered as of August 25, with both Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City recording more than 12,000 participants each.

Last year, a similar walking campaign jointly organised by Nhan Dan Newspaper and the Ministry of Public Security attracted more than 1.2 million participants nationwide.
