A local man, Nguyen Van Duong, recently found and collected 10 shells while swimming in the river. Some days after that, another man found nine shells on the river bed.

The two men informed local authorities about their findings and the shells have been collected by military forces for controlled detonations.

According to the Hoa Binh Provincial Military Command, the shells mostly measured 80mm which were left from the French War.

Hoa Binh authorities warned local residents not to collect the ammunition in the river due to safety concerns. The local military command is also planning to search and recover all the munitions left in the area.
