The bomb was found by a worker operating an excavator at a soil quarry in Bo Trach Commune. After recognising the danger, he immediately alerted local authorities.
The Mines Advisory Group (MAG) later deployed a disposal team to the site and identified the device the bomb with a blast radius of about one kilometre.
The bomb was safely recovered and transported to a designated site for destruction.
Local military officials said the quarry employs around 10 workers and is located close to key transport routes, including the Ho Chi Minh Highway and a major interchange on the North-South Expressway.
According to MAG, the organisation has destroyed 2,155 items of unexploded ordnance reported by local communities since 2025, including 12 large bombs.
MAG has operated in Vietnam since 1999, focusing much of its clearance work on heavily contaminated central provinces, including Quang Tri.
