Tran Xuan Tay, Party Secretary and Chairman of Nha Trang Ward People's Committee, said local police had been instructed to strengthen patrols and tackle theft at tourist and entertainment sites across the ward.
The move comes after the Nha Trang Museum of Oceanography, confirmed it had received reports from visitors who lost personal belongings while touring the facility.
On June 19, two tourists reported the loss of mobile phones during their visit. The museum said it had assisted the victims in reporting the incidents to police and was cooperating with the investigation.
A visitor from Hue City said her iPhone 14 Pro Max went missing shortly after entering the museum. Although surveillance cameras were later found to be working, no footage was available from the time of the theft.
Museum representatives said reports that the cameras had malfunctioned were inaccurate and that footage was being reviewed in cooperation with police.
Authorities noted that the risk of theft tends to rise during the peak summer tourism season, when visitor numbers increase significantly.
Earlier this year, police arrested several suspects in separate theft cases targeting tourists in Nha Trang, including incidents at Tran Phu Beach involving foreign visitors.
Officials urged tourists to remain vigilant and take precautions to safeguard their personal belongings while visiting crowded attractions.
