Hanoi to install more than 24,000 AI cameras in 2026

Hanoi plans to install more than 24,000 AI-powered surveillance cameras in 2026 as part of efforts to improve public security, traffic management and urban governance.

The city said the camera network has already helped authorities identify thousands of violations, including the illegal use of roads and pavements for business activities and environmental offences.

Under the plan, Hanoi Police will implement two major projects next year.

The first project will upgrade the city's command and control centre and expand its traffic surveillance system with 2,460 cameras and 100 traffic control cabinets. The project is expected to be completed by July 2026.

The second project will deploy 21,671 AI cameras to support public security and tackle five key urban challenges, including traffic congestion, pollution and flooding. Installation is expected to be completed by the fourth quarter of 2026.

The city said the projects would create an integrated citywide surveillance system capable of supporting law enforcement, traffic management and urban administration.

The network is also expected to strengthen monitoring capabilities, provide early warnings and improve the detection and handling of violations and incidents, while supporting Hanoi's smart city and digital transformation goals.
