The Central Inspection Commission has decided to discipline Da Nang chairman Huynh Duc Tho with a warning, while the disciplinary measure to be taken against the city’s Party secretary Nguyen Xuan Anh is to be decided by the Politburo and the Central Committee.

The discipline decision was announced by the CIC on September 29 after it had found multiple serious violations committed by Da Nang’s two top leaders.

According to the CIC, Anh was dishonest when using degrees awarded by an unaccredited educational institution and failed to set a good example as a Party member.

He obtained a master’s degree and a doctorate in business administration from the California Southern University, formerly Southern California University for Professional Studies, but the institution has not been recognised by Vietnam’s education ministry.

The Da Nang Party chief has also been found to have violated the Communist Party of Vietnam’s regulations on personnel and accepting cars and houses given to him by enterprises as gifts.

Meanwhile, Anh is held accountable for various other violations committed by the Da Nang Party Committee, as its head.

In addition, Huynh Duc Tho, as head of the Da Nang government, was found to have made mistakes in land urban management and to have been inactive in recommending personnel at a number of municipal government agencies under the Da Nang Party Committee’s jurisdiction.

Tho is also held accountable for various other violations committed by the Da Nang Party Committee.
