Hanoi will deploy additional electric buses on several routes in the coming days as part of its push towards greener public transport, according to the city’s Public Transport Management Centre.

The additions bring the total number of electric and green-energy buses across the network to 726, including 587 electric buses (30.1 per cent) and 139 compressed natural gas (CNG) buses operating on 10 routes, accounting for 37.2 per cent of subsidised services.

By April 30, the city plans to roll out 95 more electric buses on six routes, raising the total to 821 green vehicles, 682 electric and 139 CNG, equivalent to 42.1 per cent of the fleet.

By the end of 2026, Hanoi expects to replace a further 30 buses on two routes, lifting the total to 851 green vehicles, including 712 electric buses. This would represent 43.6 per cent of the fleet.

The move underscores Hanoi’s commitment to developing a cleaner, more sustainable public transport system and a modern urban environment.
