A mother battling cancer while raising her autistic son has received approximately USD 15,400 in donations from Dantri readers, helping both continue treatment and improve their health.

On April 24, Dantri/Dtinews Newspaper, in coordination with the National Hospital of Acupuncture, visited and presented a symbolic donation board worth VND 304 million (approximately USD 11,700) to Do Thi Chinh, 48, from Thai Nguyen Province.

The amount, totalling VND 304,283,167 (approximately USD 11,720), was donated by readers after Dantri published an article about her family’s difficult circumstances. The funds had previously been transferred directly to Chinh’s account to ensure timely treatment for both mother and son.

During her stay in hospital, Chinh also received more than VND 100 million (approximately USD 3,850) in direct support from benefactors, including VND 30 million (approximately USD 1,150) from the Thien Tam Foundation.

In total, the family has so far received more than VND 400 million (approximately USD 15,400).

Chinh is undergoing blood cancer treatment while also caring for her seven-year-old son, Pham Duc Chung, who has autism.

Thanks to the timely support, she has been able to continue cancer treatment under doctors’ guidance, while Chung has regularly attended intervention and rehabilitation sessions. After a period of intensive care, both have shown encouraging signs of improvement.

Chinh said she feels less exhausted and is now able to manage light daily activities and care for her son more effectively.

Most notably, Chung has made significant progress, with better reflexes and more interaction with his mother and people around him, giving the family hope for his future integration into society.

Receiving the support, Chinh became emotional.

“I am truly grateful to Dantri, the doctors and all the kind people who have helped my son and me. Without everyone’s support, I do not think I could have come this far,” she said.

She added that all donations would be used carefully and responsibly to maintain treatment for both mother and child in the coming months.

Pham Thi Thuy Lan, an officer from the Social Work Department at the National Hospital of Acupuncture, said she deeply appreciated the compassion shown by Dantri readers towards disadvantaged patients.

“We are very moved by the generosity of Dantri readers. This is not only financial support, but also an enormous source of emotional encouragement, helping patients find the strength to overcome illness,” Lan said.
