On the night of October 3, mountainous and midland areas in the northeast are forecast to receive showers and thunderstorms, with rainfall of 10-25mm and more than 50mm in some places.
According to the National Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, from October 4 to the morning of October 5, rain is expected across the north, with rainfall of 20-50mm and isolated totals exceeding 80mm.
The southern region and Lam Dong Province are also forecast to see showers and scattered thunderstorms on the evening and night of October 3, with rainfall of 10-30mm and more than 70mm in some areas.
Thunderstorms may bring tornadoes, lightning, hail and strong gusts, while heavy rain could trigger flash floods in small rivers and streams, landslides on slopes and flooding in low-lying areas.
Dong Nai River flood risk
Water levels on the Dong Nai River at Ta Lai Station are expected to remain below the second warning level over the next 24 hours.
Low-lying riverside areas in Dak Lua, Nam Cat Tien, Ta Lai, Thanh Son and Phu Vinh communes in Dong Nai City and nearby areas face a risk of flooding. The flood-related disaster risk has been set at Level 1.
At 1pm on October 3, the water level at Ta Lai Station stood at 112.32 metres, 0.18 metres below the second warning level.
Flooding could disrupt waterway transport, aquaculture, agricultural production and daily life.
Scattered showers and thunderstorms are forecast across the northern Gulf of Tonkin, southern coastal waters, the Gulf of Thailand and the southern East Sea from the night of October 3 through October 4.
Thunderstorms could bring tornadoes and strong gusts of Force 7-8, with waves exceeding two metres, posing risks to vessels operating in affected waters.
