Ho Chi Minh City to launch express buses to Long Thanh Airport

Ho Chi Minh City plans to introduce express bus services linking the city centre and Tan Son Nhat Airport with Long Thanh Airport, with travel times of about 60 to 70 minutes.

The proposal, announced on April 23 by the city’s Department of Construction, outlines a broader plan to expand public transport connections to Long Thanh Airport.

Under the plan, 13 new bus routes will be launched to connect Tan Son Nhat Airport, Long Thanh Airport and key locations across the city. Four existing routes will also be adjusted to integrate with the new airport.

In the first phase, expected from the third quarter of 2026, two express routes will be introduced: Saigon Bus Station to Long Thanh Airport, and Tan Son Nhat Airport to Long Thanh Airport.

The Saigon Bus Station route will use the Ho Chi Minh City-Long Thanh-Dau Giay Expressway and the Bien Hoa-Vung Tau Expressway, reducing travel time and congestion. Each trip is expected to take 60 to 70 minutes, with limited stops at Saigon Bus Station, Ham Nghi Transit Hub and Mai Chi Tho Street.

The Tan Son Nhat to Long Thanh route will follow Truong Son and Dien Bien Phu streets before entering the expressway, with a journey time of around 70 to 80 minutes and limited pick up points.

In later phases from 2027, additional routes will connect surrounding areas including former Binh Duong, Vung Tau, Long Hai and Ho Tram, helping complete the airport bus network.

City officials said that in the early stages, before metro or rail links become operational, buses will serve as the primary mode of transport connecting to Long Thanh Airport, given current infrastructure conditions.
