More coronavirus cases are expected in Vietnam as more and more Vietnamese are returning to the homeland from epidemic hit countries
All the three cases were placed in quarantine as soon as they landed in Vietnam, thus posing no risk to the community, the Ministry of Health assured.
One of the confirmed cases, a 36-year-old man, took flight QH9092 from Kuwait to Tan Son Nhat International Airport in southern Vietnam on June 16.
He first tested negative on June 17 but the second test came back positive five days later.
Notably, eight out of the Vietnamese returnees boarding the same flight had earlier been detected to carry the virus.
The remaining two cases, a 30-year-old woman and a 46-year-old woman, returned to Noi Bai International Airport in Hanoi capital from Kuwait on June 18.
They were quarantined in Hung Yen province upon their arrival, and June 23 tests showed that they had contracted the virus.
They were transferred to Hanoi-based Hospital of Tropical Diseases No2 for medical observation and treatment.
The newly detected cases have brought the cumulative number of coronavirus infections in Vietnam to 352. Of the tally, 329 cases have fully recovered and have been discharged from hospital, making up 93.5%.
The remaining 23 cases are receiving treatment at hospitals across the country, with five patients having tested negative at least once.
As of June 24, Vietnam has gone through 69 days without new locally transmitted coronavirus infections. As many as 212 cases have returned from epidemic hit countries and they were quarantined upon their arrival.
