Construction on Nguyen Trai Street

The Nhon-Hanoi Train Station affects 12km of roadway, with at least three sections causing major congestion during rush hours. Shop and restaurant owners are complaining that business has dropped off sharply due to noise and dust from the construction work.

"I used to get dozens of customers a day, but now only a few people come in," said Trang, owner of a small fashion shop.

On September 11, representative of Hanoi Traffic Police Department proposed to suspend constructions that cause severe congestion and may pursuit a prosecution if there are serious consequences.

Hoang Cau Street

Vu Van Vien, director of Hanoi Construction Department asked investors to remove traffic barriers when they are not working during the day. However, the situation has not improved.

Work on other major construction projects, including the Cat Linh-Ha Dong and Xuan Thuy-Cau Giay urban railways, are restricted to night time only.

But throughout the city, curbs on heavy machinery, such as concrete mixers, that can only enter the city at night, are causing major problems for local residents, who have to endure constant noise while they try to sleep, with huge trucks idling outside their buildings at 3am.
