The central region of Vietnam has made active preparations for Storm Vamco, according to the National Centre for Hydrometeorology Forecasting.

Thua Thien-Hue’s provincial authorities have asked relevant agencies to frequently update the storm information. People in vulnerable areas need to be evacuated to ensure safety.

The provincial Ports Authority has to ensure shelter safety for ships at Thuan An and Chan May ports. Meanwhile, dealing with the oil spill caused by ship Jakarta stranded at Chuoi Beach and searching for missing workers at Rao Trang 3 Hydropower Plant have also been suspended.

Since Thursday evening, irrigation works in Quang Binh, Quang Tri and Thua Thien-Hue have regulated water.

Since 2 pm today, Quang Tri has banned local fishing boats from operating. The province will move flood-prone households to safe places, particularly those which have ever faced landslides or at risk of this.

Meanwhile, the central city of Danang has requested local residents to stay at home from 12 pm on November 14 to avoid Storm Vamco until receiving further notice from concerned agencies.

Danang has also set up a taskforce in instructing responses to the typhoon.

By 10 this morning, the storm was located at around 340 kilometres to the east-southeast of Paracel Islands.

Due to being affected by the storm, on November 14-16, central localities from Ha Tinh to Quang Nam would see heavy rains.
