After more than one month of investigation, concerned agencies have gathered enough evidence for the first hearing which will be held at the People’s Committee of Thuan Giao Commune, Thuan An District, on January 7, 2011.
The tape, which hit the Internet, caused outrage from the public.
Ho Minh Luc, father of little girl Ho Thi Thuy Ngan, urged a strict punishment be imposed on Phung, 52 years old, and also requested the child-minder to compensate his daughter.
The cruel actions of the woman towards the three-year old girl were released in a video clip on Internet November 23. The video shows her pulling Ngan’s hair and continuously splashing cold water in her face and up her nose, Phung also stomped down on the girl who was on the concrete floor and constantly yelled at her.
Initially, Phung said Ngan often refused to have a bath, so she was harsh with her. Eventually, the child sitter admitted that she had been doing this for nearly a year. Phung, unlicensed, has worked as a caretaker for seven years.
DTiNews will update information about the upcoming trial.
