The lotuses were installed on the river three days ago. Each weighs up to 300 kilos, measures 7.6 metres wide, and is nearly 4 metres tall.

On Tuesday evening, the Executive Board of the Vietnamese Buddhist Sangha in Thua-Thien Hue Province held a ceremony to light the lotus flowers. Despite the rain, thousands of people joined the event. They then released thousands of lanterns onto the river to pray for peace and prosperity.

The lotuses are symbolic of the seven tranquil steps of Buddha.
The Buddha’s Birthday Week 2024 in Thua-Thien Hue Province is scheduled from May 15 to 22 (the 8th to the 15th day of the fourth lunar month).
